Building Growth Goals That Actually Drive Results

Let's talk about your growth goals and what they really mean to have them working inside your business, not just sitting in a plan or a presentation.

And notice I've put the word growth in front of this. That’s because the intention here is expansion, not maintenance or stability. So “how do we actually help our people expand?”

At a leadership level, I believe every business should have clearly defined growth goals. But just as importantly, those goals need to cascade through every part of the organisation.

You can start at the top with your overall business growth goals, then break them down into each functional area of the business. From there, you translate them into individual growth goals so every person knows exactly what they are contributing to the bigger picture.

Or you can work the other way - start with the business direction and roll it down into each role, asking a simple but powerful question: what do we need from each person to achieve this?

And once you've got these growth goals, documented and in play, I believe it's super important to share these with the team. So it's not a secret what we're out to achieve. We go public with that as to what we’re out to achieve.

From there, you can take it one step further by bringing energy and engagement into the process. You could put in a reward, an incentive, or a competition, to gamify progress and keep momentum alive.
