Defining Your Business Principles
May 29, 2026Business principles are what define how your business truly runs day to day.

Now you could replace the word principles with values. You could replace it in terms of how you're operating, you know, modus operandi. But the reason I love the term principle so much is, when you have this principle-centered business and a principle-centered focus of leadership, people know. And this isn't one rule for others and another rule for someone else.
These are the principles we're running our business on. And if you don't have clarity on this, a fantastic exercise for you to do would be to grab your leaders together or depending on the size of your agency, it might be the entire team and say, “What are the principles that we're building our business on? What are the foundations? What are the undeniable traits?”
“What are the truly important components in the way that we think, the way we operate that are essential with this?” And by the way, I don't think you'll end up with 100 principles. I think you'll end up with around seven key principles. Maybe it's ten principles, but it's a small number of principles that we're running our business by.
Look, an example of that would be, “We always operate in our client's best interests.” That would be a simple example of a principle. So, are we operating in a client's best interests? “We are.” Big tick., “We’re not.” “Well, hang on a tick. Why are we actually putting this in place? It's one of our core principles in the way we do business.”
Remember… when your principles are clearly defined and actually being lived, they become your business DNA driving clarity in complexity and alignment in growth.
