The Power of Care Call: What If You Called Just to Check In?

Oct 12, 2026

People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

In real estate, it's easy to get caught up in the calls that drive the business. The prospecting calls, the follow-ups, the listing appointments and the conversations that move a deal forward.

But there's another type of call that deserves just as much attention.

The care call.

A care call isn't a real estate call. It's a check-in call. It's about picking up the phone because you're thinking of someone and genuinely want to know how they're going.

"Hey, I was thinking of you and just wanted to check in. How are you going? Is everything okay with you and the family? And how's everything with the property?"

Notice the order. Family first. Property second.

Because before someone is a property owner, a seller or a potential client, they're a person. And people want to know that you see them as more than just another opportunity in your pipeline.

Lead with care, not an agenda

The beauty of a care call is that it doesn't need a sales pitch or a particular outcome. You're not calling to win a listing or generate an appraisal. You're calling to show someone that they matter.

And here's what's interesting. When you consistently put genuine care and positive energy into your relationships, it often comes back to you. People remember how you made them feel. They remember the agent who checked in when there was nothing to sell and no immediate business to be won.

That's how trust is built over time.

But you can't sit back and wait for other people to show you care before you're willing to do the same. You need to be the one who makes the first move. You need to lead by putting that energy out into your client base and your community.

Your challenge: Blitz your care calls

I know you've got listings to win, buyers to work with and plenty of things competing for your attention. But if you've got time, I'd encourage you to invest some of it in a care-call blitz.

Start with your top 100 clients.

Work through your database and pick up the phone. Check in with people you haven't spoken to for a while. Ask how they're doing. Ask about the family. Make sure everything is okay with the property.

And most importantly, make the call about them, not you.

You might be surprised by the conversations that come from it. But don't make that the reason you call. Make the call because it's the right thing to do.

Remember, your business is built on relationships, and relationships are built one conversation at a time.

Don't just be the agent people hear from when you want something. Be the agent who calls because you care.
